Always belated

Posted in General at 4:25 pm by Christine

Happy happy bday Google! Ok – I am late as always, it was Google’s seven year Bday on Tuesday. lol. They had cake and everything…well at least on the logo!

Ok – so I had to post something, it could not all be about me today, lol. So please don’t hate me for this but this is so funny I had to put it up! Dancing Bush.

Hey…at least I am posting!

On a personal note:
My company tried to get me to do a presentation / SEM workshop at one of the local Advertising Training Institutes. Luckily I managed to convince them that I should not run the entire presentation, but only comment and perhaps speak on two topics. I got away this time…but not so fortunate for the next one! I really hate public speaking. I am too much of a techi-geek to be good with crowds. One on one’s and small crowds for sure, but not rooms filled with about 50 post-grads! It was a nightmare, but I have three more embarrassing sessions with that lot! lol. And besides, this is really good exposure ;)

Stroll Down History Lane

Posted in General at 10:32 am by Christine

Well it certainly has been a while since I last posted…so, I will just ignore all the “evil eyes” and “what’s up comments” and move right along and pretend as if I did not disappear off the face of the blog planet for a while ;)
For my “comeback post” I’ve decided to do a bit of a trackback and update you as to everything I said I would…

In my last post I was still raving about FeedDemon. Yes it’s great, but with so many free RSS aggregators out there…why would you want to purchase it? Albeit only $29 – I would rather take the free one as they are all so alike. I just hope that Brad does not send me nasty mails for saying that – lol.

My Apple prediction has also proved to come to life as apple released their iPod nano – what a beauty!

Joey’s PSP arrived right on time and I have unfortunately not had as much playtime with the toy as I would have liked. It is a really super little machine. It may be little in appearance, but certainly not in capacity nor abilities! But he will do a full review for you guys shortly!

Wow, this takes me back. This is Google hardwareof 1998, just think how far they have come in the last 7 years!! Its absolutely amazing.

If you have some spare time – rofl! Create your own kaleidoscope by checking out these two nifties:
DrawToy & Older DrawToy pretty impressive huh?

So I guess that there has not been that much that I have not filled you in on…eventually!

But let me get back to trying to get my new, free RSS reader to work….ugh! And catch up on some industry stuff so I can have something meaningful to tell you guys.

On a personal note:
I was quite happy to see that some of you took interest in subscribing to my newsletter…thanks for that! :)

My MuayThai classes, just like my blog postings, have taken a bit of knock lately. I think I have only participated in one class this month – shocking!! We did however attend a tournament held at the school on Saturday night. It was really something! There were eight bouts in total – six amateur and two professional. The professionals were matched up against two kickboxers – very hectic to watch. You don’t want to cause trouble with those guys believe me!

Joey has been flying up quite a bit to Joburg recently for one of his latest work ventures. (Yes ok, I am known to exaggerate sometimes – so it’s been twice (so far) but twice is two times too many for me! Lol) I took him to the airport this AM again, luckily he is back tomorrow :)

Catch you soon!

The Time has Arrived!

Posted in General at 12:54 pm by Christine

Although FeedDemon has made my life so much simpler, I just don’t seem to have the time to read much news on it. Isn’t it ironic?

I try to stay up to date with gadgets and new science-related inventions really interest me. I saw the most interesting news today. Well, I am sure that most of you have seen or read about the robotic dog (or so called “entertainment robot” manufactured by Sony) that may serve as a “replacement” for those that are not allowed to keep pets where they live, or other reasons. Anyway moving right along to the article, it seems that they will now also tell you when its time for your walk. No longer will it only act as a loveable pet, but for those of the lazy or obese nature it will now become a would be “curse in disguise” as it will monitor your eating & dietary habits! You decide. What next.

Are you a paranoid android? Well just to keep global paranoia afloat “The Onion” yesterday published an article on new areas where Google are to expand into. I bet this will get most of the SEM conspiracy theorists out there talking! Viva la Google World Domination!

I guess it was posted in response to this (super interesting) article published on Time Magazine’s website, which boasted a future look at search. Lol

In the last few days the competition between the search gods continue as Yahoo looks to Gmail’s philosophy to upgrade their Yahoo Mail service. According to a few posts, the upgrade has not propagated to all Yahoo mail subscribers, but apparently according to this review will raise the Gmail bar. Yahoo seems to intend offering the same deep indexing, thumbnail views, preview snippets and search refinement as Google. But will u change your email provider purely because Yahoo has upgraded?

Rumour has it that Apple is planning a new product announcement early in September. Some predict an updated iPod Shuffle music player with much more capacity. Watch this space!

On a Personal Note:
PSP is finally arriving in South Africa tomorrow! I can’t wait. I (not so) secretly (anymore) pre-ordered Joey an early bday gift…yip, he is getting a PSP the lucky, lucky bugger which should be arriving very shortly!! I hope someone reads this and tells him how lucky he is (And that I better get “play time” with it as well!!) ;)
