Momentous Occasion!

Ok, I don’t usually post any photos on my blog - but since this was a once in a lifetime event, here are some photos from Joey and my engagement party. Thanks Joey for uploading the photies for me! :)

Trends and Fads

Posted in General at 11:56 am by Christine

Remember Linked In? How many of you still actually use this regularly?

And Plaxo? Ok, it was just the other day that I was raving about how cool that one is…

I must admit, I get bored of things pretty quickly and only sporadically spend time (albeit minimal) on Linked in and the like. Plaxo is cool for birthday reminders – which I tend to forget lately anyways…

I think the only cool “trend” that I have stuck with thus far is Gmail, ok and maybe my RSS reader – which without I probably won’t know what’s going on around the net anymore – it is such a timesaver for quickly scanning the world of online.

So what was a big fad for you?

On a personal note:

Our engagement party was awesome. A great time was had by everyone – if I have to say so myself and we got a beautiful day to boot! Thank you to everyone that joined us!!

We went to watch a play last night called The Travellers – all I can say is don’t go watch it if your spirits are not very high. It is quite heavy. It was a little bizarre to start off with, but it was good.

Speaking of barking mad, watched Kung Fu Hustle the other day. Absolutely brilliant… Mad, but brilliant.

Eek, AlterSage is slipping in the rankings again….must post more regularly ;) I also think its time to invest some of my time in some more articles.

Chaos Rules in Nod

Yes, it’s been a while, I know. But here I am ;)
The most followed story currently making circles must be that the Department of Justice has requested logs from the Big Shots of search. Apparently they want to “revive the Internet child protection law struck down two years ago by the U.S. Supreme Court. The law was meant to punish online pornography sites that make their content accessible to minors…”

According to San Jose Mercury news: “ The Bush administration wants access to Google’s huge database of search queries submitted by users to track how often pornography is returned in results. This information would be used for Bush’s appeal of the 2004 COPA law, targeted to prevent access to pornography by children. The law was struck down because it would have restricted adults access to legal pornography. Google is promising to fight the release of this information.” From the article: “The Supreme Court invited the government to either come up with a less drastic version of the law or go to trial to prove that the statute does not violate the First Amendment and is the only viable way to combat child porn. As a result, government lawyers said in court papers they are developing a defense of the 1998 law based on the argument that it is far more effective than software filters in protecting children from porn. “

Taken from SlashDot: So far it appears that the search engines which complied for Department of Justice requests for logs were apparently AOL, MSN, and Yahoo. According to the article, Justice is not requesting this data in the course of a criminal investigation, but in order to defend its argument that the Child Online Protection Act is constitutionally sound.”

Google is still as yet refusing access to their logs.

Google Video has been out for a while now and I am every so often forwarded the most hilarious clips from it…I think the most recent funny one was titled The Internet is for Porn – how appropriate ;)
The video store now also allows you to purchase or view not only home made clips, but tv series, or buy full blown movies made available from their media partners. You can watch all movies either on Google Video Player or even download to your iPod or PSP. Check out this Blog Post for a list of the partners currently available:

I am loving Yahoo Open shortcuts. It’s a beta application created by Yahoo for navigating the net and allows you to create your own shortcuts to instantly navigate to any URL on the Internet, easily recall common searches on Yahoo! and jump start frequently used Internet applications. FEG: To use an Open Shortcut, you type ! (exclamation point) followed by the name of the shortcut in the Yahoo! Search box. For example, type: !ebay lamps. This takes you directly to www.ebay.com and searches for lamps. Nifty?

Anyone heard of CommWarrior? Anyone know this Mobile App being sent around currently? I received this weird App and being the naïve (and by naïve I mean trusting person) that I am, I accepted and installed it to my mobile. Within a couple of minutes people around me were complaining that my phone was trying to connect to their laptops! Eventually I had to kill the app on my phone…

On a personal note:

We went to another whisky tasting this week organised by my company. It was loads of fun – well, anything including Johnnie Black usually is ;)

Apart from that, been pretty busy (more like snowed under) with work and have not really had much free time available. (as I am sure you noticed from my lack of postings….)

The one thing that I am very much looking forward to this weekend is that Joey and I are having our engagement party on Sunday. All I keep thinking is that if it takes this much planning for an engagement party, we’ll definitely need a wedding co-ordinator…
